I’ve been a petsitter since 2002. I worked for The Humane Society of the United States for three years and built a clientele from knowing many fellow pet-lovers. While there I completed a three-day Disaster Animal Rescue Training and helped care for rescued animals after Hurricane Katrina. Also, while attending the University of Maryland, I worked as a receptionist at Lynn Animal Hospital in Riverdale, MD.
I grew up as an animal lover – it runs in the family! My brother was a groomer, my mom completed training at Animal Behavioral College, and my aunt and uncle run a sanctuary for special-needs animals!
Last but not least, Adam and I have 3 wonderful cats- Dean, Meemaw, and Cinnamon. We recently adopted a guinea pig named Cookie!
I have been pet sitting since the holidays of 2002. I started by watching my friends’ dogs over Christmas and have been petsitting ever since.
My most notable experience with animals was volunteering for animal protection & rescue organizations near New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. At the Lamar-Dixon temporary shelter in Gonzales, Louisiana, I fed and walked the animals in the VMAT, the section for extremely sick and injured animals.
I also volunteered for and worked at The Humane Society of the United States in 2007 and have been a dog walker since Summer 2007.
I grew up with all sorts of animals – dogs, cats, rabbits, small mammals, reptiles, and horses. I have watched people’s companions for years and have been doing cat-sitting in the Silver Spring/Takoma area for over 7 years. I have experience working in a small animal clinic and was a large animal ICU vet tech at Virginia Tech. I currently work with wildlife, so animals are a huge part of my life.
